Great analysis of GenXers. Like you, I ignored politics until Obama and even more so, the pandemic. I would rather not complain, suck up the parts I don't like and I have built an extraordinary tolerance for the out of whack. But exactly as you said it, enough is enough. I am now neck deep and gaining speed.

AOC can suck it that little cry baby. You know you're a fraud when you predict that truth will be your ruin.

The more government controls, the harder it is to ignore them:

After all, when things are going well, who has time to sit around talking about the dangers of growing government? Why should we spend time thinking about monetary policy? We’ve got real shit to worry about. Just trust that the government is looking out for you.

But sooner or later the reality of the situation is too powerful to look past. The behemoth federal government is sticking its nose in so many places you can no longer ignore them. Suddenly what the idiot politicians say can ruin your life. When this happens, the political battle shifts as well. Suddenly regular people see the need to protect free speech and start speaking out about the dangers of government directing private companies to do their bidding. (There’s a word for that!) In this way, the underlying battle lines crystalize.

And as the ‘leaders’ become more authoritarian, cracking down on all dissent, the proper response is for the people to become more libertarian.

I would also add that Twitter is critical because of links, basically to here, Substack. Twitter + Substack, when taken together, can basically negate any attempt by the powers-that-be to censor anything. Twitter has the real-time virality and Substack has the unlimited volume.

As a fellow Gen-Xer (‘72) I couldn’t agree more with your generalized take on us. I consider myself socially libertarian and fiscally conservative. I’ll do me, you do you.

You’re point about tech-savvy but not tech-dependent is brilliant. We truly are the only generation en masse that were firmly planted in the old analog world and the new digital world.

Will be fascinating to see this play out. I’m so sick of wokism and the left trying to tell everyone what to do and how to think. We need a change for sure.

This is an excellent stack. You are so spot on. I may have to join Twitter again. I left because the only argument so many had to my thoughts about various things were vile personal attacks, from people who know nothing about me. It was uninteresting and rather gross. They had no ideas to debate with.

Favorite line: "But probably most important is that Gen-X is the only generation that is tech-savvy, but not tech-dependent." YES.

You know this chaos is all happening on Gen X watch? Their kids and parents are being attacked by the predators and most of them do nothing beyond hoping Elon saves them

Twitter suspensions proceed apace... is anyone looking out for the 80k Pfizer document drop that is scheduled to occur today? (and what happened to Jean?)

fElon is a fraud. Somehow, he'll turn this into just another grift like $TSLAQ, SpaceX, and his stupid tunnel for cars company.
